Mission: Conquer Shilin
Wow...this week has been crazy at work and had to finish 400 slides worth of Training Deck. Now it is 90% complete I can now update my blog. :D.
Last weekend, since it was our last here in Taipei I wanted to make the most of it- SHOPPING of course was I had in mind. I was thinking this would be my last chance to go to Night Market and revisit spaces that I haven't been to. My first Mission: Conquer Shilin. The first time I have been there, I feel that I wasn't able to explore much of it, thus the need to go back.
My Shilin adventure would be slightly different since I will be going there alone. Everyone had different agenda for the weekend and this was mine. Honestly I was freaking out a little since it will be a rare opportunity that I will be be venturing to foreign place where most speak little English...but behold, I found my way and maybe every shopping destination may be home to someone like me- Shopaholic Monster.

Mission: Conquer Shilin. I will be taking the MRT but will be going down Jiantan Station which was one station away from where we originally went down during our 1st visit.
Brought my Tourist map with me just in case
What I wore to the market. Something really comfortable- Tank Top and Denim Shorts . Ready for that humid day.
Ximending in daylight.
Z, we are going to ride same MRT but will go seperate ways in Taipei Main Station
I was taking shots of signs like crazy. Specially with English- Chinese Translation. Just in case I get lost, I can show it to the cab driver and find my way home. ;) ...Started with Ximen Station.
Went down Taipei Main Station and will take the red line MRT and go to Shilin
While riding MRT, took shots of some places along the way.
I think this is a water pipe with "San Francisco-like-cables"
Right beside the water pipe bridge is this Temple like 5-star hotel. This building can be seen from miles...from our office terrace were we usually have our cigarette break.
I am not really sure what is this structure...whether it is residential or commercial building.Looks lovely though...
Yehey, I have arrived. As per my "study" with Taipei's MRT Map, it will be more convenient going down Jiantan Station...which I did.
Again...taking landmark photos for that "just-in-case-moments..."
Truly Jiantian Station is only 5 minutes away from Shilin. Initially I said to myself, "Crap...how I will go to Shilin with Chinese signs." Good things there were English "subtitle" hehe. I arrived safely at Shilin, sweating a bit since it was freaking humid.
It was a Saturday afternoon, most vendors are getting ready...even occupying the middle aisle for pedestrian. I am feeling "at home" all ready.
I think I arrived in Shilin around 4pm and I was enjoying myself so much that I didn't notice the time. It was getting darker. This was the first time I've been to this part of the market...mostly food stalls are here.
This was such a surprise...in the middle of the crazy market lie a Buddhist temple
I have to take a shot. In my month long stay here in Taipei, I think I have only seen 2 temples and this was the 2nd
I remembered, I was so thirsty and I can't find a 7-11, so I tried my luck to buy traditional milk tea and I was asking how much...but she couldn't understand me. Went a little thirsty till I found Family Mart...another version of their 7-11.
Cute store and looks delicious.
I swear...I was able to check every nook and spot of Shilin and I decided it was about time to go home. That was around 8pm. I took this shot near Jiantan Station and look at the density of the crowd.
Another shot of the intersection from Jiantan to Shilin
..waiting for my train ride
Yehey...I found my way back home in one piece. Ximen Station. It was a really really tiring but very fulfilling shopping day.
Some of the things I purchased. A Navy-inspired brooch and a Black Cone Ring
Carrot Pants
Rocker Tank Top
To conclude my post...Shilin really didn't live up to its reputation. In reviews, they are saying that this is the best Shopping Destination...however after looking around I found that the Market is small compared to Ximending. I wasn't able to find underground stores (which normally sells hard-to-find-goods). I enjoyed Shilin however wishing it will be bigger and better the next time I come here. (Sorry...nag feeling ako na Shopping Destination Critic. Hehe) :D
Next post, my supposedly "Last Shopping Day in Ximeding." Which, I doubt will be my last...since the other night I just bought an extra luggage around 27 inches- to fit most of the things that i bought.
Someone please stop the Shopaholic Monster. :D
Will post as soon as I can.
